"Burnt and Crispy"

Burnt and crispy

Know the saying/song “It’s hard being green” I think it should really be “It’s hard being red”
Here’s why....

There are two races of gnomes “North America Gnome” and the “Tropical Gnome”. I am a “North American Gnome” meaning that I have the same complexion as a white crayon, and blond to gray hair color. “Tropical Gnomes” think there all that with there deep bronze tans and dark flowing hair. So while there laying around baking in sun most likely developing skin cancer I’m hiding under a bush with SPF 50 on.

Which leads me to my story... It all started on Wednesday morning I went out job hunting which as you can guess is very hard for a Gnome because not that many people want to hire someone whose only 1 1/2” inches tall but that’s besides the point. I headed out the door without putting any sunscreen on because for the last few days it had been cloudy out and it was nice not having to bother with rubbing greasy lotion all over my body. I left my house at 11 and re-turned by 3, it was a sunny day but not to hot. Once indoors I could tell that I was going to get a little red. I then went to the beach but this time I did put on sun screen as to not make the burn any worse little did I know at the time the damage I had done in the morning.
During the next two days I experienced every symptom of a severe sunburn.
I was red from my feet up my legs, from the back of my hands up my arms onto my back, and on my face. I was so red that you could not tell where my red shirt started and stopped. The next day when I woke up I could not walk due to the burns on my legs. I got the chills, head ach, and nausea. Then next day after that the fun just kept coming because my whole body started swelling up. Swelling sun burn is not fun because it stretches the burn I was wobbling around and could barley walk. Now I’m starting to blister but most of the stinging pain is fading.

Today I went to the Hyland park and chillaxed. I drew in my sketch book, and people watched in the park. Then I went into a church and there was a wedding going on so I sat and watched the my first wedding! The strange part was that there was all these other tourist taking tons of pictures and even video reordering it! I thought this was strange are they going to go back home and show people some strange peoples wedding?
I had my first coke/caffeine since I arrived today yummy.
Did you know that it only cost 30 cents to get an ice cream cone from McDonalds now that’s something i can afford!

Heres some pics from my day in the park enjoy

Cheers

Australia Day Update

"Australia Day Update"
Well today was the grand day that is “Australia Day”. In the afternoon I went to the harbour bridge area to see what was going down. It was a crowed and cloudy and yes I did get stepped on several times. I found out that there was 6 different small stages with bands playing. I only got to see one band because it started to rain. The band called “Mojo Juju & The Snake Oil Merchants” was awesome here’s there Myspace page.http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=96715214 There best songs are not on the web, whats that all about?

At night time I headed out in the rain to see the fireworks in “Darling Harbour”. It was two shows in one because Chinese New Years celebration was also added in.

On a separate note the other day when I was coming out of the grocery store after just buying some “Nutella” (Gnomes put “Nutella” on everything) I notice there was a group of people standing around looking at something. I went to get a closer look and saw that someone had tide up a dog to a bike stand (nothing unusual about that) but it was what else was tide up that had peoples attention...
I guess someone had decided to take there pet dog and goat for a walk to the grocery store. Yeah someone tied up a goat on a leash. I wish i would have had my campera with me at the time.

First Few Days...

First flight was good I had whole three seats to myself and even though I did not get any sleep it was still good flight because before we landed I saw the golden gate bridge. The second flight however was more of a challenge. I sat next to a 5 year old so I kept get “accidentally” hit (you would not think a gnome would need that much room but we have big personal space issues). The cherry on top was that that at one point when I looked behind me there was a woman cutting her toe nails in the aisle with a pair of scissors and it was not what some call a “controlled clipping” fling flange toe nails going everywhere.

I’ve been in Sydney for a few days now and I guess things are going alright. Who would think that a roaming gnome would get home sick, it just should not be. So far I have gone for many walks around the parks, the bridge, opera house, the market, and the Botanical Gardens. All the plants here are so beautiful and I could sit underneath them for hours.
Even though I have been putting on sunscreen I still managed to get a few burns on my nose and my knees what can I say its not like gnomes are known for there dark tans were very pale creatures.

OMG big news by my new house there is a Target. If you don’t know by now along with a good nights sleep, a cold brew, and fresh morning due, Target is one of a gnome favourite things.

In closing here is a picture of me by the “Sydney Harbour Bridge”.

Miss you all... well not the cat I hate cats all gnomes hate cats!
Fredrick.

The countdown has begun!

The countdown has begun!

Only days to go now but lots left to do. I have started making to do list but there’s only so many hours in the day and only so many things a Gnome can reach with out requiring help. Packing is proving to be exceptionally tough should I bring a red or blue shirt, brown or green pants?
I have to jet, but i leave you with a personal motto of mine....

Roaming Gnome Motto
“Two roads diverged in the wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
-Robert Frost

(Yes I know who Robert Frost is! Don’t stereotype woodland gnomes!)

Intro to me...

Hello
My name is Fredrick and I am a Gnome. You may recognize me from the Travelocity commercials, or your neighbours front lawn. As part of my new years resolution I have decided to do some traveling. I’ll be heading to Australia on the 14th of January and staying there till august. Wow 8 months of living down under! Landing in Sydney and staying there for at lest the first month and after that who knows. I’ll be keeping a blog so you can check in on all my adventures. Hopefully i’ll be updating at lest once a week with photos and plenty of stories.

Cheers
Fredrick
